Your starting point in Finnish hockey

Overview

Division 3 is the most common entry point into Finnish ice hockey for international players.

It’s a competitive amateur level where you can immediately get games, ice time, and experience in the Finnish hockey system. You have also time to experience other things outside hockey.

Most teams train regularly and play around 20–30 games per season.

Costs & Reality

Most teams are pay-to-play.

Typical monthly costs:
50–150€
Players usually cover:
  • Own equipment
  • Insurance/license (around 300€)
  • Transfer fee (970€)
  • Flight-tickets 
  • Accommodation
In return, you get:
  • Consistent playing time
  • Structured team environment
  • Real game experience in Europe
  • About 2 trainings per week
  • Around 20 regular season games + playoffs

Who is Division 3 for?

Division 3 is ideal if you want a serious but

accessible way into European hockey.

Typical player profiles:
  • Players looking to enter Europe
  • Experienced players that wants to get a unforgetable experience overseas
  • Players overaged junior hockey.
  • Players coming from recreational / beer leagues
Level of play:
  • Competitive but accessible
  • Mix of former juniors, high quality hobby players, and experienced adults that has played Suomisarja or Div 2.
What’s next after Division 3?

Many players use Division 3 as a stepping stone to Division 2 or other European leagues.
