Where performance starts to matter
Overview
Division 2 is a significant step up in intensity and expectations. The league is very popular in some areas of Finland with over 1000 spectators per game, whereas other areas stuggle to get any spectators at all.
Often smaller villages, like in the west coast, the league is more popular than in bigger cities. Teams are more structured, and performance becomes a key factor.
Imports are expected to contribute directly — often offensively.

Compensation
Conditions vary between teams.
What you might get:
Contracts
- Most players play for free
- Top imports may receive small compensation
- Equipment deals can be available, for example subsidised or free sticks.
Living
- Housing support can be included
- Support varies from free housing to helping you find an appartment .
Workplace
- Clubs can eventually help you in finding a job, fulltime or part-time.
- Altough the jobmarket is not good in Finland at the moment.
Are you good enough
for division 2?
Level of play:
- Faster pace

You are expected to:
- Produce points
- Be reliable
- Adapt quickly
Typical background
- Former college players (NCAA Div 3, Acha DIV 1)Â
- Quality players from USHPL Premier & NCDC
- FPHL and higher
You should:
- Skate well + good puck-handling
- Have some kind of competitive edge (what is your speciality?)
- Understand systems
- Handle physical play
Opportunities:
Good performance here can lead to Suomi-sarja or Pro-contracts in other European countries.
